Our kitchen garden is a typical garden for supplying the majority of our fresh vegetables and culinary needs. While it is a bit bigger than most kitchen gardens, it didn’t start that way. It was once a field that we broke up with a ripper, plowed, and tilled using our 1948 Farmall Cub. After our first year of improving and amending soil, we broke ground again, and doubled the size of the garden to the left side of the chicken coop and run.
We started placing fencing posts in anticipation of high fencing the garden next spring. In spring 2025 we will also be migrating the corn, beans, barley, and oats to a 1/2 acre field where we will do traditional row cropping, and introducing perennials to our kitchen garden alongside larger volumes of things we love to grow and use a lot of.
